Motor show sales rev up

Bangkok International Motor Show

A total of 42,885 orders were placed for new vehicles at this year's Bangkok International Motor Show, a 34% increase over the previous year.

According to show organisers, approximately 1.6 million visitors attended the event, which was held from March 22 to April 2 at Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. More than 40 automobile and motorcycle brands took part.

Apart from the easing of Covid-19 measures, this year's display of many new models as well as electric vehicles were significant factors contributing to the attendance increase, organisers said.

Electric vehicles proved highly popular this year with a total of 9,234 orders placed, accounting for 21.5% of all automobiles sold.

Toyota was the biggest individual seller of all vehicle types with 6,042 orders, followed by Honda with 4,304 and MG with 3,929 orders.

Motorcycle sales amounted to 3,098 units (Honda not included), a 56.7% increase compared to 2022 numbers. Sales of electric bikes were tallied at 873 units.

In addition, 143 orders were placed for boat and jet ski models displayed at the show.
