Motherwell are set to announce their new manager today, according to reports.
The Steelmen interviewed four candidates to replace Graham Alexander, who departed the club last month in the aftermath of their embarrassing Europa Conference League qualifying round exit to Sligo Rovers.
Among them were current caretaker boss Steven Hammell and former midfielder Simo Valakari.
And The Herald reports that the club are "optimistic they will be able to unveil their new manager today", with the new boss in the dugout for Saturday's trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen.
On Saturday, Hammell oversaw a 2-1 defeat for the Steelmen at home to St Johnstone. That came after a 1-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley in his first outing in interim charge.
'Well players including Scotland international Stephen O'Donnell and midfielder Dean Cornelius have backed Hammell for the job, but it remains to be seen if the Fir Park hierarchy share that faith.
The new manager will have just under three weeks remaining in the transfer window to bring in new players, something O'Donnell said was 'more important than bring in a new manager right now'.
Hammell said post-match on Saturday that 'major surgery' is required to the squad.
So far this summer, the Steelmen have brought in just three fresh faces - midfielders Josh Morris and Blair Spittal, as well as right-back Paul McGinn.
Motherwell are due to hold their weekly press conference tomorrow morning, where the succesfful candidate will give their first interview as the new manager of the club.
