Motherwell's Jackie Weaver did not 'have the authority' according to £85k reports

Motherwell internet sensation Jackie Weaver did not "have the authority" to mute and virtually eject councillors, according to new reports

Scots born Jackie became a viral star on social media after the Zoom meeting she attended for Handforth Parish Council descended into chaos.

Jackie, who was a stand in clerk, removed a member of the council after he questioned her 'authority' in the now famous meeting.

She also told those at the meeting 'Please refer to me as Britney Spears from now on.'

Now reports, which cost over £85,000 for an investigation, confirm she did not actually have the authority to remove participants.

The hilarious 'worst Zoom meeting ever', according to an official council report, went viral in February 2021.

The meeting took place in December 2020 but in the seven minute long viral package someone could be heard saying: 'f*** off' near the start, and a toilet flushing too. Someone else answered the front door while two other councillors tried to press mute.

Cheshire East Council's Audit and Governance Committee decided to investigate following the viral video at a cost of £85,716. and concluded with no formal findings made against any councillor.

Six reports have now been published totalling 145 pages looking at the actions of people before and during the meeting.

And according to BBC News, one report concludes Jackie Weaver 'was not acting in an official capacity at these meetings'

Now Jackie who is with the Cheshire Association of Local Councils, representing town and parish councils, has said she did not actually remove councillors from the meeting but moved them instead to the waiting room before they were removed through a vote by remaining councillors.

Jackie, who welcomed the findings said she was 'deeply saddened about the length of time and cost it took to get there.

The Audit and Governance Committee took the opportunity in the six reports to investigate 21 formal complaints from meetings between 2018 and November 2020, which was before the viral zoom video.
