Motherwell's decision to appoint Steven Hammell at the club's next permanent manager has received plenty of praise from the Steelmen supporters.
The 40-year-old was confirmed as the club's 26th gaffer in their history this afternoon and has been handed a two-year deal along with fellow ex-player Brian Kerr.
Hammell, who replaces Graham Alexander at the helm, has proved a popular choice after a 17-year spell in claret and amber as a player saw him make almost 600 appearances.
He now steps up from his role as academy director, having coached and led every squad the club has over the last five years.
And most fans on social media are excited to see how the Hall of Famer performs, while calling for the board to back him in the transfer market.
Reacting to his appointment, Del Sommerville tweeted: "All the best to Hammy. A big job but have certainly seen signs of improvement in performances recently, hopefully works his magic to get a few much needed signings in."
Michael Donaldson commented: "Deserves his chance, has lifted the club since he came in and his interviews have been engaging and excellent."
Sammy Malin said: "This man knows the club and he knows the young players as well……Great news."
User @MotherwellSuper posted: "Glad to have this sorted, board needs to back him now with some signings otherwise will look like the wrong appointment when it clearly is not. Good luck Hammy, you deserve this and deserve the support and time from the board."
Thrilled fan @weekazMFC posted: "Yes this makes me so happy. Best man for the job. Well done."
However, user @DressersMFC said: "I hope I am brutally wrong but don't think Stevie is ready. I think this shows lack of ambition from us and Stevie would have been a great addition to a new management team. We need significant signings or we are in serious trouble."
Doubter @FXTWO said: "Not for me. Hope I’m wrong but imo not the time for an inexperienced manager. I’d rather see him replace a successful manager than trying to build a team and sort out a major headache in his first big job when the season has started. Hope this tweet looks silly in 12 months though."
Craig Forman commented: "An amazing guy and I’ll get right behind him. My worry is our finances. He knows which of the young players are good enough to promote to the first team but will he be given money for new players."
'Well fan @AlternateAdMan posted: "Right behind you Hammell - good luck! I will admit to being very nervous about this appointment though. Hope he’s given opportunity to get a lot of new players in pronto - otherwise we’ll be hounding out a club legend by Christmas, which will be a travesty."
And user @kokodoball said: "There will be doubters out there within our support but that would be the case with any appointment. I am glad they have given Stevie the opportunity. Fingers crossed he is a success. This season staying up will be a success. Good Luck Stevie."
Hammell's first game as permanent manager comes on Saturday when the Steelmen travel to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen.
While in his caretaker role, he led them to a 1-0 win away at St Mirren on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season and a 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone at Fir Park last week.
