Motherwell chief Alan Burrows shows extent of Fir Park flood damage

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows has ruefully joked that they have "inadvertently installed a 25m pool" in their gym, as he revealed the extent of the damage caused by burst pipes at Fir Park.

The Lanarkshire club's Premiership match against St Mirren - their first since returning from the five-week World Cup break - was postponed yesterday, due to the damage.

But chief executive Alan Burrows has revealed the extent of the flood damage in a series of social media posts, and says the club is working around the clock to ensure next Friday's home match against Kilmarnock has a chance of going ahead.

He said: "we've inadvertently installed a 25m pool in the gym.

"We've got umpteen bursts all across the stadium, in every stand, with significant damage.

Chief executive Alan Burrows says calling the game off was massively frustrating, but the club had no choice (SNS Group)

"Big thanks to the staff who have been in, even during the night, with alarms going off due to water leaking, who are doing all they can to plug it."

It was with a heavy heart that Burrows yesterday announced that the game would be off, and on social media he told fans: "I am sorry to any fans excited for tomorrow's game.

"We still have loads of the stand frozen (so no running water or heating) and those parts which have started thawing have caused extensive flooding damage across the stadium.

"We wanted to give people as much notice as we can and we'll work hard to get things cleaned up and fixed (it will get worse before it gets better) before next Friday night.

"Sorry again to those who were excited about getting back.

"Our hospitality was sold out and we were expecting a big crowd, so it's very frustrating, but the safety of people coming to the match is our principle concern."
