Motherwell women’s head coach Paul Brownlie says a clinical touch could guide to them to victory in the Lanarkshire derby with Hamilton Accies on Sunday.
The Women of Steel have suffered cup elimination to Partick Thistle in SWF Scottish Cup action, before a 2-2 draw with the Jags upon their return to SWPL 1 matches this month.
Brownlie’s side are sixth and face rock bottom Hamilton who are fresh off an encouraging display against champions Glasgow City, despite a 1-0 loss.
With City, Celtic and Rangers holding superior resources to everyone else - and Hibs not far behind them - Brownlie says the challenge for clubs like Motherwell and Hamilton is to beat each other.
He said: “I think it’s part of the development of this squad. We are only six months into this project.
“It is a short time we’ve been together but we need to find that last part. The game is won at both ends of the pitch and I think we need to be more clinical.
“If we do that, that’s the next step in our development. With how much we dominate the ball and create opportunities, that’s the next step.
“The challenge for the rest of us outside the big three is can we be best of the rest. We came out on top in the first Lanarkshire derby and that was a massive three points for us.
“I know Hamilton will be organised and I know they got beat 1-0 by Glasgow City, but that is a fantastic achievement.
“It shows the rest of the league that on our day, if players turn up, we can run the big teams close.”
