Best known for her shape-shifting and mean avatars on television, Monalisa (Antara Biswas) is now going to make her debut in the comedy genre with Favvara Chowk, in which she plays Rama, a single mother to twin daughters. The actress says, “I was excited about performing comedy, as it is different from what I have done on TV so far. I watched a few videos to understand the Indori dialect and accent. It’s a positive and the lead role.”
The show came at the right time, as the actress realised that it was time to try something different to avoid getting typecast. She says, “I did feel typecast as I was flooded with offers to play the antagonist in supernatural shows. In fact, I declined one recently. It isn’t easy to recreate the magic of daayan Mohana in Nazar and I didn’t want to fall short of the benchmark I have set for myself. I don’t know what makes people think that I fit the genre, as I have only played positive characters in my Bhojpuri films.”
She plays a mother in Favvara Chowk. Does she harbour a desire to become a mother in real life anytime soon? The actress, who tied the knot with Bhojpuri actor Vikrant Singh Rajpoot, in January 2017, says, “There is also a lot of pressure from my mother and mother-in-law and that’s why I am scared of visiting my hometown (laughs!). Jokes aside, we are thinking about it. Till some time ago, we were focused on our work, but now we want to start a family. Motherhood is on my mind and I am prepared for it.”
