The mother of a toddler murdered in 2012 has died in a car crash in Perth.

Kerry Bodney, 31, died at Royal Perth Hospital after being critically injured in an accident on Wednesday morning.

Police say Ms Bodney had been a passenger in a BMW sedan which allegedly sped through a red light before colliding with another car.

The BMW driver, a 27-year-old Mirrabooka man, allegedly fled the scene.

He was scheduled to face court on Thursday charged with manslaughter, failing to stop and assist, and failing to report the incident.

Two other passengers were also injured in the crash.

The fatal incident comes 11 years after Ms Bodney's two-year-old son was shaken to death by her then-partner.

Wayne Murray Narkle was sentenced to life behind bars in the Supreme Court of Western Australia after pleading guilty to murdering toddler Robert Bodney at a home in Bassendean in December 2012.

Ms Bodney had gone to get cigarettes and had briefly left the boy in Narkle's care.

When she returned, she found her son's skin to be pale and his lips were blue.

The court heard Narkle had been under the influence of heroin when he had a momentary "loss of self-control."

Two years later, he received a life sentence with a 15-year minimum period in jail.

Friends have posted tributes to Ms Bodney on social media.

"R.I.P Kerry Teqan Bodney you're reunited with bubba Robert now," her friend Lakotta Miller wrote on Facebook.
