It is not unheard of for wedding guests to sometimes struggle to find the perfect elegant dress to celebrate their loved one's big day. But there are a particular set of unwritten rules when it comes to the dress code as guests are expected to keep it classy and obviously avoid the colour white.
However, one woman has stirred up some controversy as she turned up in a slightly inappropriate outfit to celebrate her daughter's wedding, the Daily Star reports. A guest who attended the wedding took to Reddit to share an image of the mother of the bride's fit which has triggered a huge online debate.
Some appalled users compared the dress to 'lingerie' while others saw "no problem" with her choice of gown. The women's daring strapless dress featured sheer grey lace from the waist up which was complimented with a corset design and a sweetheart neck.
The author who admitted the dress was ''beautiful'' was not convinced that the outfit was suitable for a mother of the bride. They captioned the post: "Beautiful dress but... for a mother of the bride... I don't know about that."
Many people agreed as one said: "Well, first, it looks like lingerie. Second, it's so silvery it looks white. And third, not sure what kind of wedding it is but looks very formal."
Another added: "No way it looks too much like a wedding dress in colour and style." On the other hand, some users argued that they did not see an issue with the woman's choice of gown as long as the bride had approved it.
The person said: "A bride will help their mums choose an outfit so if the bride was cool with it then no worries." A second added: "It's a bit much in my opinion but if the bride is on with it then no problems with it.
"I can totally see if the bride is wearing more over the top or something non-traditional how this could work."
