Children sit in a car trunk, in Rafah

A mother in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been arrested following a heartbreaking incident where her 8-year-old daughter was found in critical condition inside a hot car and later pronounced dead. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced the arrest of the 36-year-old mother on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call around 6:30 p.m. and discovered the young girl in critical condition in the vehicle. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she tragically succumbed to a brain herniation due to hyperthermia.

An arrest affidavit revealed that the mother had left her daughter in the car on a hot day, believing that the air conditioning was left on. Upon returning to the vehicle, she found her daughter in distress and attempted to seek help by breaking a window and stopping at a local business.

The mother admitted to authorities that she was aware of the high temperature outside and acknowledged that leaving her daughter alone in the car was a grave mistake. She expressed regret for her actions and the tragic outcome that followed.

Following her arrest, the mother was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office to face the charges brought against her. This devastating incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially during hot weather conditions.
