We're all familiar with the last-minute panic check of a hotel room before we hand the key in, making absolute sure we've not left anything behind.
It's common to forget about a charger or some toiletries which are easily replaceable - but what if you left your beloved pets or first-class plane tickets?
According to hotel group Travelodge, some Scots have done exactly that. A list of the most bizarre things left in hotel rooms in the past year has been revealed and some of them are very sentimental - or very expensive.
Millions of people in Scotland stay at a Travelodge every year, meaning there's plenty of things left behind in hotel rooms.
Here are some of the most treasured things that made the list.
Two trained sheepdogs
One guest that was staying at the Fort William Travelodge got quite the shock when she realised she'd left her two perfectly trained sheepdogs, Hamish and Ramsay, in the room.
As her and her husband had taken separate cars, she thought he had taken them. But upon arriving back at their home in Aberdeen, they immediately realised their mistake and swiftly returned to collect the pooches.
Whisky worth more than £5,000
Gifts and presents were one of the most common things left behind in hotel rooms, Travelodge revealed.
But probably one of the most pricey gifts was a a 70cl bottle of Balvenie 40-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky that had been given to a business traveler staying in Ayr.
She'd been given the bottle as a congratulations gift after completing a successful business deal, and once she'd realised her expensive error, her personal assistant was sent over from Jersey the next day to retrieve it.
Wedding vows from the 1950s
Some things you can't put a price on, and one such example is a set of heartfelt wedding vows from back in the 1950s that a couple had left behind in Falkirk.
The pair, who were in their nineties, had been celebrating their platinum anniversary and had brought their original vows to share with their family and friends.
But as soon as the housekeeping team came across the precious items, the hotel manager arranged a special courier to deliver them back to their rightful owners.
First class plane tickets
The past year saw plenty of wedding-themed gifts and memorabilia left behind in Travelodges all over Scotland.
But one pair of newlyweds made the unfortunate error of sleeping in after the celebrations and heading to Edinburgh airport for their honeymoon without their plane tickets.
They were due to travel to Cancun in Mexico in first-class style, but luckily, their printed tickets could be access digitally at the check-in desk so they were still able to jet off and enjoy their honeymoon.
Other bizarre yet treasured items that have been left behind in Scots Travelodges this year included a signed Celtic FC shirt and football, a five-tier red tartan wedding cake, a 6ft Japanese temple, and a pair of VIP tickets for an Ed Sheeran concert.
Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: "Interestingly the 2022 lost and found audit also revealed that we are a nation striving for a healthy lifestyle as we have seen a significant rise in smart watches being left behind in our Travelodge hotels in Scotland during the last 12 months.
"When it comes to why so many of our customers forget their treasured items, it’s basically due to us all being time poor, juggling multiple tasks and being in a hurry to get from A to B. In the rush, valuable possessions are easily forgotten."
Here's the full list of the most bizarre things left behind in Scots Travelodges in the past year, and where they were found.
