New research has revealed the most romantic hotels in the UK, and three Scottish destinations are included.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many couples will be looking to book a romantic getaway for two somewhere in the UK. All of the different options available can make it difficult to know where to head, however.
Fortunately, experts at digital goods website Gembyte.com commissioned a study that looked into which destinations are most popular amongst couples. Analysing TripAdvisor reviews for 262 hotels, they discovered which ones have most frequently been described as romantic.
The Witchery in Edinburgh placed second on the list, with 282 reviews calling it romantic. The boutique gothic hotel includes nine "fabulously original and indulgent" suites, and was described by Cosmopolitan as "one of the seven wonders of the hotel world".
Gembyte.com added: "The Witchery is perfect for everyone looking for a lavish romantic getaway. Described as romantic by 282 reviews, this hotel has 9 luxuriously decorated suites.
"Whether you spend the night here or go for a romantic candlelight dinner, this hotel will bewitch you with its gothic elements and romantic ambience."
Also located in Edinburgh, Prestonfield House appears at number eight on the list, with 148 TripAdvisor reviews describing it as romantic. Located just five minutes from Edinburgh's Old Town, the five-star hotel combines "opulence, theatre and luxury", and offers the privacy and seclusion of a country estate right in the heart of Edinburgh.
The third and final Scottish hotel to appear in the top 10 is Dalhousie Castle in the Midlothian town of Bonnyrigg, which was called romantic in 138 TripAdvisor reviews. Perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle, it features 29 one-of-a-kind "luxurious" bedrooms.
Gembyte.com commented: "If you want to get further away from city life, Dalhousie Castle might be a better choice. The large estate will inspire you to stroll around and absorb the rich history surrounding you."
Coming in at number one in the study is Cranleigh Boutique in Bowness-on-Windermere, with 285 TripAdvisor reviews dubbing it romantic. The five-star luxury lake district hotel includes designer rooms and suites dressed in an abundance of velvets and chandeliers.
