Most popular supermarket for Valentine's Day meal named - and it's not Aldi or Tesco

With Valentine's Day fast-approaching, people are looking for budget-friendly options to treat their loved-ones and show how much they love them. But with the cost of living crisis putting a pinch on people's finances, many are opting for dine-in meal deals from supermarkets.

Retailers like Aldi, M&S, Lidl, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons have all come up with budget-friendly meal deals for couples to enjoy together. For as little as £10 per person, couples can get a starter, main course, side, dessert and bottle of prosecco at Marks and Spencer.

Alternatively, Aldi has a budget friendly option which includes lobster-filled pasta, heart shaped garlic bread and wagyu flavoured chips. Tesco's luxurious offering costs £12 for two, and includes a £10 bottle of prosecco.

But which is most popular? Vypr asked a nationally representative sample of its 65,000-strong community about their plans for Valentine's Day. As part of the survey, Vypr asked where consumers went for their ingredients as part of their romantic meal.

Just under 35% (34.21%) said M&S - making it the most popular supermarket for Valentine's Day 2023. Around 20% of consumers said they'll choose Aldi or Tesco. Other retailers fared less well, with only 14% of consumers choosing Asda and 13% choosing Sainsbury's.

Ben Davies, the founder of Vypr, comments: "As the majority of romantics look to be staying home this year, we could be seeing the continuing cost of living crisis bite further. However, consumers expect promotional offers from the already under pressure hospitality sector and with M&S leading the retailers, dine-in choices are very popular."
