Most of us have done no redecorating since before lockdown

Over half of us are still living in a pre-pandemic home, having not updated any aspect of our home interior in over two years. The study, from Disney in support of the launch of Disney Home textiles range, found that almost two-thirds of Brits just find it too difficult to throw away items in their living space, while 36% say it’s too expensive to make any updates.

One in 10 admit that they’re simply too lazy to even begin changing their interior, while 16% don’t have the time. The findings highlighted that more than seven in 10 participants believe that redecorating has a positive impact on their wellbeing. It’s also all about comfort for more than a quarter who decorate to make their living spaces cosier.

Interior design expert, Lisa Dawson said: “Re-decorating or re-organising your living spaces shouldn’t be seen as a hassle or a chore. It’s something that should be fun and fill you with joy in the knowledge that you’re making your home more of a sanctuary for the cold months ahead.

“Changing up your interiors is a great way to enhance your mood too, and there’s no need to create a deadline either. Little by little works just fine and you can change the look and feel of a space by simply replacing cushions or bedding.”

Lisa Dawson provides her top tips on making small decorative changes that have a big impact on your living space

1. Refresh your space: Swapping your old duvet for a fresh set from Disney Home can make the biggest of differences to your space, whether you decide to update with a patterned colour or go for a calming monochrome set, such as Disney’s Mickey Duvet Cover, available in mono or rainbow designs.

2. Bring in the layers: One of the most important ingredients when it comes to styling your home and creating spaces that make you happy is layering. Layering your textiles not only finishes the look but also draws the eye, creating areas that are just as beautiful to look at as they are to be in.

3. Switch up your cushions: Swapping out your cushions will always give your room a refresh and add a bit of colour when you feel that you are bored with your decor. Putting away the Summer fabrics and bringing in the texture can also really make a difference to your space.

4. Comfort is key: For maximum cosiness, a weighted blanket is the perfect addition, giving all the autumnal feels whilst adding an element of style to your space with materials such as luxe satins and soft tactile jersey cotton. Disney selection of weighted blankets aid a sense of wellbeing and restfulness with their smooth texture and playful patterns.

5. Anchor the space: A good rug has several benefits, the main one being that it adds another tactile layer to the space and anchors the room. A rug will pull the scheme together, providing a base for your furniture and bringing in texture.

The Disney Home textiles collection is available to purchase now at Dunelm, Jysk, Amazon and John Lewis.
