Most expensive street in Britain revealed - where house prices average £24million

The most expensive street in Britain has been revealed as Phillimore Gardens in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

According to an annual review carried out by Halifax, the average house price on the street sits at an eye-watering £24million.

Phillimore Gardens was built in the early 18th century and sits on the Phillimore Estate, on land acquired by the affluent Phillimore family.

It runs from the Duchess of Bedford’s Walk right through to Kensington High Street, and neighbours Holland Park.

Unsurprisingly, Halifax's review found that London dominates the top 10 priciest streets to live on in the country.

Less than three miles away in Mayfair, properties on Grosvenor Square are going for £23.5 million on average.

And in third place is London's picturesque Illchester Place, where houses now cost an average £17.7 million.

Outside of the capital, buyers would need £1.5million in comparison to secure an exclusive postcode in the North East or the East Midlands.

Kim Kinnaird, Mortgages Director, Halifax said: “For almost all of us, these homes and their eye-watering price tags are the stuff fantasy house hunts are made of.

“Unsurprisingly, London roads occupy the top 10 streets in the UK, and buying a home on London's Phillimore Gardens could set you back a staggering £24 million on average.

"That said, the price of a prestigious address can differ hugely across the UK. Living on the most expensive street in the North East or East Midlands will cost something closer to £1.5 million.”
