Most common way Liverpool homeowners are saving money on energy bills

One in three homeowners in Liverpool are set to make energy efficient home improvements in the coming year as the country faces rising bills amid a cost of living crisis.

According to research by MyGlazing.com, three quarters of homeowners in the city want to make their home more energy efficient, with 33% set to invest in measures in the next 12 months.

The most common investment in Liverpool is draught proofing (26%), while one in five homeowners are planning to upgrade their doors. One in six said they will replace lightbulbs with more energy efficient alternatives.

Other measures include installing heat pumps, replacing boilers, installing solar panels, getting double or triple glazed windows and insulating the loft.

Tom Butler of MyGlazing.com said: "It goes without saying that, as a nation, we’re facing considerable challenges when it comes to the cost of living. However, it’s promising to see that so many homeowners are planning to make energy efficient home improvements in the near future.

"Even though the initial cost of some green improvements can be costly, the long-term benefit makes them a real investment.

"For example, up to 24% of heat energy can escape from old, draughty glazing so upgrading windows to be double or even triple glazed can really help to improve a property’s energy efficiency."

Nationwide, it is estimated UK homeowners will spend £16bn on making their homes more green in 2022.

On average, it is estimated people will invest more than £2,700, with those aged 55 to 73 set to spend the most at £3,401.
