Morrisons shoppers say return of iconic 90s toy 'takes them back to being a kid'

Morrisons shoppers have shared "memories" after seeing that the retailer has brought back an iconic 90s childhood toy.

The supermarket now sells Tamagotchi electronic toys for the price of £16, around 25 years after the product was first introduced.

Those who grew up in the 90s and 2000s will likely have memories of having or playing with a Tamagotchi. The Japanese toy is a digital handheld pet that users must look after by feeding and giving attention.

After surging in popularity in the late 90s, over 80 million Tamagotchis have been sold worldwide. However, they fell out of fashion in the late 2000s as other toys emerged and technology advanced.

One shopper who grew up with the toy and spotted it at their local supermarket was quick to share the news online with others. Writing in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, they said: "Morrisons £16 ah the memories."

Before long, the post had received over 300 likes and more than 400 comments from Morrisons shoppers and former Tamagotchi fans giving their thoughts.

One shared: "Mine always died as a kid cus mum abandoned it while I was at school!"

"I need one again," revealed a second.

"This takes me back to being a kid," posted a third, while a fourth said: "I've not seen them in years"

A fifth commented: "I had one of these when they first come out in the 90s cost a tenner then so I suppose £16 isn’t too bad an inflation."

Other shoppers shared their experiences of purchasing the retro toy for their children, with one posting: "Got my daughter the blue one from amazon same price last week for her 17th.

"It's brilliant every time it goes of she rolls her eyes, asks for food she huffs. I am having so much fun watching her get sick of it lmao."

A second stated: "Loved mine as a kid but I bought one for my son for Christmas last year and wasn't at all interested, think technology and has come on so far that these just aren't entertaining enough anymore."

"My daughter got one a few months ago - it drove her mad and she turned it off after two days," revealed a third.
