Morrisons shoppers gobsmacked as Easter eggs spotted on Boxing Day

With Christmas day just passed, shoppers have been thrown into a tizzy after Morrisons was seen to stock shelves with Easter eggs on Boxing Day.

With sales beginning on December 26, many shoppers hit the shops for the best Boxing Day deals. But customers of one of the UK's biggest supermarkets were gobsmacked to find that the retailer had begun selling Easter eggs just 24 hours after the festive holiday, reports Wales Online.

The chocolate eggs are traditionally enjoyed on Easter Sunday, which falls this year on April 9 - over four months away. Many took to social media to rant about Morrisons' attempt to beat out the competition.

Writing on Twitter, one shopper shared an Easter Terry's chocolate orange and wrote: "Don't worry folks! To make sure you don't miss the next big event, shops have started stocking Easter treats and goodies.

"Nice one @Morrisons. We were beginning to panic that you'd forgotten!"

Photos shared to the site showed aisles teaming with displays of Mini Eggs, Lindt and Cadbury bunnies and Galaxy caramel eggs. Elsewhere, the retailer's Canterbury store shelves were laden with Cadbury eggs, Malteser bunnies, Cadbury eggs and even a large Creme Egg display - with a 2 for £1 deal on offer.

A second person, with a photo of a shelf full of Easter treats, wrote: "There you go people, Morrisons selling Easter eggs on Boxing day."

A third wrote: "I joked with some shelf stackers about Easter eggs in @Morrisons the other day and they laughed and said that the first five boxes were already in the warehouse. True story."

One person joked: "Morrisons having their Easter eggs out today really has made my day," with another adding: "Morrisons in Neath starting early with the Easter chocolate race..."

The criticism was not limited to only Morrisons as fellow retailers Co-op and Tesco were also guilty of lining their stores with Easter goodies. One upset Twitter user said: "I hear Tesco has Easter eggs on the shelf… does anyone want to go and destroy them?"

Another added: "It's literally Boxing Day and already I've seen a Co-Op selling Mini Eggs. Happy Easter everyone."
