Morrisons shopper left flabbergasted by £900 cherry tomatoes at self-checkout

With the cost of living rising, prices seem to be going up everywhere all the time, but it's fair to say one shopper was recently left flabbergasted when they saw the cost of cherry tomatoes at the supermarket.

An unnamed Morrisons customer was recently grocery shopping at the store and using the self-service tills to check out their items. However, they were stunned to see an error occur when they rang up some cherry tomatoes as the screen claimed the pack of tiny vegetables was going to cost a whopping £900.06.

The shopper shared the blunder online where fellow social media users couldn't resist commenting.

The post, uploaded to Reddit's Casual UK forum, sarcastically read: "Cherry tomatoes. On offer at Morrisons."

It included a photo of the customer's shop, with their total coming in at £923.90 due to the blunder.

Since going live, the post has been upvoted over 4,000 times and garnered hundreds of comments.

One Reddit user joked it was almost as expensive as buying butter these days, asking: "What are they made of? Lurpak?"

Another wrote: "Hey, you beat my record! My (online) Sainsbury's order a couple of weeks ago wanted to charge me £108 for 12 mushrooms!"

A third replied: "Had the same thing recently in Asda, where it wasn’t until I pointed out that the baguette should not have cost £750 that the cashier noticed."

"Inflation really getting out of hand," proclaimed a fourth.

While someone else said: "I was in Morrisons yesterday and they wouldn’t sell me the cherry tomatoes I’d picked up because there was an issue with them scanning though the till, I guess this was the issue lol."

A spokesperson for Morrisons has since confirmed the cherry tomato price was a "mistake".

They said: "This is clearly a mistake and we're looking into what caused the error. In the meantime, we would like to apologise to this customer for any shock caused."
