A customer says she refused to buy a jar of coffee after seeing the amount of money Morrisons was going to charge her. Angela Howells-Owen posted a warning online to shoppers to watch out for the price of the coffee after she refused to pay for hers.
Angela went to Morrisons to buy a 190g jar of Nescafe Gold Alta Rica Coffee but was shocked when she saw the price at the checkout. She later took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains website to warn others, according to the MEN.
She said: "Popped into Morrisons yesterday to pick some coffee up (Alta Rica) got to the till and it scanned at £9.00. I obviously queried it and they said it was correct! Got a refund and went to home bargains. Just sharing in case anybody else buys it as part of a big shop, I don't always check. "
Morrisons' website confirms that the supermarket chain is selling the 190g jar - which is the larger of the two sizes available for £9. In comparison, the same jar is being sold for £5.50 at ASDA, Ocado (reduced from £8.50) and Waitrose (reduced from £8.50). It is £8.50 at Sainsbury's and £6.50 at Tesco unless you use your Clubcard to get £1 off.
Other website users were quick to condemn prices. Julie-Anne Sales said: "This doesn’t surprise me."
Aileen McCallum slammed: "It soon mounts up if you’re purchasing quite a few items. My dog's food has gone up 60p in a couple of weeks, a Morrisons loaf by 45-89p."
A Morrisons spokesperson said: "This is an unprecedented period of inflation and we are doing everything we can to keep prices down for our customers, including growing our entry range 'Savers', offering free meals for children in our cafes and investing in our My Morrisons loyalty scheme.
"We believe we are competitive across the store with good standards, pricing and availability."
