Morrisons cuts prices of 47 household items including cereal, meat and more

Morrisons has slashed the prices of 47 products to help with rising food costs.

The supermarket giant is cutting prices for staple items such as mince, tomatoes, butter, squash and cereal across all of its 499 stores. It promises to hold the latest prices for at least eight weeks.

With a huge rise in food bills, this will mark the stores sixth round of reductions in 2023. The most recent official data shows that food inflation hit 19.3% in April, dipping only slightly from March's 19.6% - the highest rate for more than 45 years.

Other supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury's has also seen reductions on staple items in the past month to help shoppers. Tesco said on Friday last week that it has seen reductions in the price of milk, bread and pasta.

Sainsbury’s recently cut the price of its own-brand toilet paper by up to 11%, saying the cost of pulp used to make the paper had fallen for the first time in two years. However, Tesco warned that it is still facing 'persistent increases' in prices of other popular products, such as potatoes and rice.

This comes after changes Morrisons has made for its customers who own a loyalty card. Last month, the store brought back its 'More Card' loyalty scheme to replace its My Morrisons app after a successful trial.

The 'More' card can be used as a physical card or an app, and allows customers to earn points from selected products and counters in store and online. It can also be used at Morrisons petrol stations.

As well as this, the popular supermarket is also bringing back its 'Morrisons Fivers' once a customer has earned 5,000 points, which can be redeemed on a future shop. You can shop Morrisons online here, or find your nearest store here.
