Morrisons confirms exact dates it will shut 17 stores - is your local closing?

IN March this year, it was announced that Morrisons would be shutting some of its Daily convenience stores.

Now, the exact dates for each of the 17 shops closing across the UK have been confirmed.

Last month, the supermarket also shared that 365 jobs were at risk of redundancy because of plans to close some of its cafes, convenience stores, florists and fresh food counters.

The chain said it was costing more to run the services than it was making from customer spending.

Alongside the 17 Daily convenience stores, 52 of the supermarket's cafes, all 18 market kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies will also shut down, with dates yet to be announced.

The majority of staff members affected by the changes, which will be made over the next few months, are expected to be deployed to roles elsewhere in the business, Morrisons previously said.

Exact closing dates for Morrisons' Daily convenience stores

The exact closing dates for 17 of Morrisons' Daily convenience stores, as confirmed by the supermarket, are as follows:

  • Lowestoft Road, Gorleston - April 16

  • Westfield Road, Woking - April 16
  • 40 Peach Street, Wokingham - April 16
  • 51 Sidwell Street, Exeter - April 16
  • Moorland Road, Bath - April 16

Most of the stores will close on Wednesday, April 16, apart from Haxby, which will shut on May 14.

Commenting on the closures in March, Rami Baitieh, Morrisons’ chief executive, said the changes were a “necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate” the chain and invest in areas that “customers really value”.

He added: “Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues.

“We will of course take particular care to look after all of them well through the coming changes.”
