Morrisons announces price cuts across nearly 50 products for eight weeks

Morrisons has today announced that it has once again cut the cost of several food staples in-store and online to help shoppers save money on their weekly shop.

The UK's fifth largest supermarket chain has confirmed that the prices of 47 high-volume products have been cut for the next eight weeks, and it includes summer favourites, cupboard fillers and fresh essentials

It marks the sixth time that the grocer has slashed the cost of grocery staples and comes just after it announced that shoppers could see a number of "deflation dividends" over the coming months.

This latest wave has seen items slashed by an average of over 25 percent, with shoppers able to find them across fresh items like mince, tomatoes and butter, cupboard staples like squash and cereal and picnic classics like pitta breads and scotch eggs.

It follows the supermarket's decision to also reduce or freeze the price of more than 1,000 products until July, with some products being held at the same price since the start of the year.

Shoppers were also delighted at the return of the 'Morrisons Fivers' scheme, as the offer allows them to receive a fiver than can be redeemed in-store and online once they have earned 5,000 points.

In addition to its price cuts, the supermarket has also recently relaunched its Morrison More loyalty programme, which allows customers to collect points on fuel and selected products in store.

Rachel Eyre, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at Morrisons, said: "Providing great quality products at affordable prices for our customers is a key priority at Morrisons.

"Our steady flow of deep and broad price cutting programmes, together with our new More Card loyalty scheme, are helping customers save money on their weekly shop.

"Today’s price cuts include picnic items to help our customers make the most of the warm weather and we’ve not forgotten the fridge and cupboard essentials either."
