Morrison shopper vows to never return after paying 'eye-watering' price for coffee

Some shoppers have vowed to boycott supermarket giant Morrisons after they noticed how much a jar of coffee is being sold for in stores.

Amid the cost of living crisis and rising food prices across the country, Angela Howells-Owen was left in disbelief when she tried to buy a jar of Nescafe Gold Alta Rica from her local Morrisons.

When the shopper got to the till and was told it would cost £9 to purchase the 190g jar of coffee, Angela demanded a refund, Manchester Evening News reports.

Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains website, Angela said: "Popped into Morrisons yesterday to pick some coffee up (alta rica) got to the till and it scanned at £9.00.

"I obviously queried it and they said it was correct! Got a refund and went to home bargains. Just sharing incase any body else buys it as part of a big shop, I don't always check."

According to online price comparison site trolley.co.uk, ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Ocado and Waitrose are selling the same jar of coffee was £5.50.

A number of shoppers vented their fury in the comment section of the post.

Gemma Woodhouse said: "Does anyone else think Morrisons has put prices up a lot?"

Emma Hall suggested: "Try b&m as well they can have coffee cheaper in there. I got a large jar of nescafe Decaff last week for £3.69 compared to double the price in the supermarkets."

Aileen McCallum slammed: "Morrisons are starting to take the p**s with their prices on n just about everything. And im not talking about 5/10p. Sometimes it quite a bit extra.

"Soon mounts up if you’re purchasing quite a few items. My dogs food has went up 60p in a couple of weeks, a morrisons loaf from 45-89p. Then had the cheek to put it on offer at 85p. Although its my closest, I’m gonna start shopping elsewhere."

Julie-Anne Sales said: "This doesn’t surprise me. I used to shop at Morrisons all the time but their price increases are just ridiculous. I now prefer Tesco. So much better on prices."

It comes after Morrisons were earlier this week accused of “robbing shoppers” after placing an £8.99 price tag on its largest pumpkins

The pumpkins in question were said to be only slightly larger than Sainsbury’s ‘monster’ ones, which cost £3 each

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "Our giant pumpkins are a larger alternative to our standard large pumpkin and remain a popular choice for customers. However we do offer a range of cheaper alternatives to suit, with our munchkin pumpkin costing as little as 59p and our large pumpkin at just £1.99."
