Two people have been taken to hospital after a bus crashed through two houses on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

A bus driver and a passenger were taken to the Frankston hospital after a cement truck crashed into their bus, carrying more than 10 people, which went on to smash into two houses in Safety Beach.

Victoria police said the crash happened at about 11am on Wednesday. No one was inside the two homes at the time.

Police said the 44-year-old bus driver and a 17-year-old male passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics also treated a second passenger at the scene.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he saw one female passenger with blood running down her face who was treated at the scene and a male teenager with smashed teeth who was taken to hospital.

“The injured people were towards the front of the bus and the guys towards the back walked away with no injures,” he said.

The man said he saw firefighters assisting the driver.

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said the teenager was taken to the hospital in a stable condition with an upper body injury. The spokesperson said the bus driver was treated for lacerations and was also in a stable condition.

Peninsula Health confirmed both were in a stable condition in the Frankston hospital.

The 32-year-old male truck driver was not injured and assisting police with inquiries, police said.

A Victorian State Emergency Service spokesperson said volunteers from the Sorento unit were helping with the removal of the bus.

The spokesperson said the volunteers were called in “due to several suspected entrapments”.

“Our volunteers have been on scene since 11.20am and are working with Country Fire Authority volunteers to extricate patients, to deliver into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics.”

A Country Fire Authority spokesperson confirmed no one was trapped.
