New Celtic loanee Moritz Jenz has received a warm welcome from his pal Matt O'Riley after completing his season-long loan to Parkhead.
The pair came through the ranks together at Fulham's famed academy and will once again link up with the Premiership champions ahead of their tilt at the Champions League. Jenz has been on Celtic 's radar previously and the club have an option to buy in their agreement with Lorient.
Jenz has a familiar face beside him as he aims to make a big impression under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou. And his chance could come quickly with Carl Starfelt still on the sidelines ahead of the new season. Stephen Welsh has been starting beside Cameron Carter-Vickers with Chris Jullien facing an uncertain future.
O'Riley is certainly pleased to see his old mate, writing on Instagram: "Welcome brother!" Jenz left Craven Cottage in 2020 before turning heads with Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland. That led to a move to Lorient last summer before penning terms to head to Glasgow's east end.
Manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking after securing the services of Jenz and fellow new arrival Aaron Mooy, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring in both Aaron and Moritz to the club, and I’m sure they’ll be great additions to our squad. I obviously know Aaron from my time coaching the Australian national team, and he brings with him a wealth of experience at both club and international level.
“Moritz is a player we’ve been aware for a while now, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to sign him. They’ve already had the chance to meet the rest of the squad, and I’m sure they’ll settle in very quickly into what is a very welcoming group of players, and I know that our supporters will be looking forward to seeing them both in a Celtic jersey.”
