Celtic have announced the signing of German defender Moritz Jenz from French side Lorient...minutes after confirming the capture of Aaron Mooy.
The 23-year-old has signed a season-long loan but Celtic have the option to buy at the end of the season. Moritz emerged as a target this week with reports in his homeland claiming Lorient were keen to move him on after a difficult first year in Ligue 1. They battled against relegation, eventually avoiding the drop by four points, with Jenz making 20 appearances - although he lost his place in the team towards the end of the campaign.
He was a Celtic target 12 months ago in Ange Postecoglou's first transfer window as Hoops boss, but Jenz joined Lorient with the Hoops signing Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt. Twelve months on, though, they have swooped back in for him and he arrives to add serious competition to the back line. Formerly on the books at Fulham, Jenz previously impressed for Lausanne-Sport before heading to Ligue 1.
Speaking of the two latest signings, Celtic manager Postecoglou said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring in both Aaron and Moritz to the club, and I’m sure they’ll be great additions to our squad.
“I obviously know Aaron from my time coaching the Australian national team, and he brings with him a wealth of experience at both club and international level.
“Moritz is a player we’ve been aware for a while now, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to sign him.
“They’ve already had the chance to meet the rest of the squad, and I’m sure they’ll settle in very quickly into what is a very welcoming group of players, and I know that our supporters will be looking forward to seeing them both in a Celtic jersey.”
