Morgan Whittaker Rangers switch 'back on' as winger left out of Swansea squad amid 'not in right frame of mind'

Rangers have been given huge encouragement in their bid to make Morgan Whittaker a January signing after he was left out of Swansea’s squad for their clash at Queen’s Park Rangers.

There were fears that a Rangers swoop for the talented winger would be scuppered because, having been on loan at Plymouth, if he turned out for The Swans he could not move to Ibrox this season as players are only allowed to feature for two teams in a season.

And that is now out of the equation because the Welsh team don’t play again until AFTER the transfer window shuts. Rangers, who have had two bids rejected, are now expected to go back in.

Wales online also report that Whittaker did not train with his Swansea team-mates on Friday after the attacker spoke with senior figures at the club to state that he did not feel in the right frame of mind to feature in the English capital.

A decision was jointly taken that the player would not travel to west London for the Championship fixture. It leaves the door open for Rangers to submit an improved offer for Whittaker before the 11pm deadline on January 31, although their original bid is understood to be well short of Swansea's valuation of the former Derby County man.

It's anticipated Todd Cantwell will be unveiled next week after a deal with Norwich was agreed and Rangers are also close to signing Belgian star Nicolas Raskin who is also out of contract at the end of the season at Standard Liege.
