Morgan Gibbs-White breaks silence on Nottingham Forest transfer with emotional message

Morgan Gibbs-White has penned an emotional parting message to boyhood club Wolverhampton Wanderers after completing his move to Nottingham Forest.

Forest have signed the 22-year-old from Wolves for an undisclosed fee, understood to be an initial £25million, which could rise to over £40m with add-ons. The attacking midfielder becomes the Reds' 16th summer signing as head coach Steve Cooper continues to revamp his squad following promotion to the Premier League.

Gibbs-White has signed a five-year contract at the City Ground. He is reunited with former Swansea boss Cooper after spending the first half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the Liberty Stadium.

The pair also worked together during Cooper’s spell in charge of England Under-17s, who won the U17 World Cup in 2017. Gibbs-White was on loan at Sheffield United last season and started in both of Wolves’ first two Premier League games in this campaign.

Forest confirmed the current England Under-21 international will wear the number 10 shirt. During his loan spell at Sheffield United he notched 12 goals and made 10 assists in 37 appearances, and scored against the Reds in the second leg of the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final at the City Ground.

After the transfer was confirmed on Friday morning, Gibbs-White posted a heartfelt message on Instagram. He said: "This is so hard to write. I don’t even know where to begin, honestly. Wolves has been my whole life. I’ve been at this club since the age of 8 - the club means everything to me.

"I want to thank everyone who has played such a huge influence on my career. The managers I’ve worked with, the backroom staff, my teammates and the incredible fans who have supported me through the good and difficult times. I will always appreciate it. I’ve grown from a young boy into the man I am today at this club.

"This has been the hardest decision of my life but one i felt I had to take at this stage of my career. It hurts to leave but it’s time to take on a new challenge. I’ll always be a Wolves fan and watch out for our results on matchdays.

"I want to wish everyone all the best for the future and hope to see you all soon."

He signed off with the hashtag #wolvesaywe and a heart emoji.
