More than 50 Stewartry Sharks enjoy muddy trip to Bladnoch

More than 50 Stewartry Sharks braved the wind and rain to travel to Bladnoch on Sunday to play against Newton Stewart and Wigtownshire.

It was a muddy affair. The conditions were without a doubt the most difficult the Sharks have ever faced and all their coaches were very proud of how the players adapted. They played and supported each other really well and a number of the Sharks joined the other teams to make up their numbers.

It was hugely encouraging to see the improvement in the P1-3s with lots of good passing by Adrian, Edward, Fred, Thomas and Sam finding Esmee, Gabriel, Isaac and Fergus in the space and runs from Jasper, Jack, Noah and Layton which resulted in lots of tries. The P4/5 players really got stuck in and seemed to enjoy having the soft ground to practice their tackling and sliding tries.

There was one particular corner on their try line that was very popular and the supporters quickly realised to stand back from it after Robbie completely sprayed his mum and granny with mud whilst sliding over for an impressive try.

The turn out from the P6/7s was fantastic as they fielded two teams and supplied some players to the other teams. They played great rugby and made full use of the pitch with lots of passing along the line, out to the wing who spotted the space and went for it. The heavy conditions did not seem to slow them down at all.

Afterwards everyone was were very relieved that Newton Stewart had the heating on and the players managed to get warm and cleaned up at bit and enjoy some Newton Stewart hospitality.
