More than 300 Somerset homes could be built near Taunton after land deal secured

Housebuilder Crest Nicholson has acquired land in Somerset where it says more than 300 new homes could be built.

The company said it has a live planning application pending on the site in the village of Norton Fitzwarren, situated two miles from Taunton. If approved the FTSE 250 firm said it would look to start construction on the homes, classified as affordable housing, next year.

As part of the build, Crest Nicholson will complete the construction of Great Western Way on the southern edge of the site, called Norton Rise, which it said would help connect it to the village, and take pressure off local roads.

Mark Foyle, managing director of Crest Nicholson South West, said: “As we continue our commitment to build communities in the South West, we are pleased to have completed the purchase of what will be our Norton Rise development. Our experience of building strong communities at our developments can been seen across the South West. Norton Rise is well connected, with excellent nearby transport links, local schools and sports facilities that rival other villages.

“We look forward to progressing planning work on the site and to bring more than 300 quality new homes to people of Somerset over the next couple of years.”

Details of the land’s previous owners and the financials of the deal were not disclosed.
