More than 30,000 homes in Renfrewshire impacted by burst water main

Scottish Water is working to restore normal supplies to customers in parts of Renfrewshire after a burst on a strategic water main in the early hours of this morning.

Around 36,000 properties in the area, including in Paisley, Erskine, Bishopton have experienced a loss of normal supply, low water pressure or discoloured water following the burst on a 24 inch water main close to the Barrholm roundabout on the A726 in Erskine around 12am this morning.

Properties in Greenock and Port Glasgow in Inverclyde are also being impacted.

Scottish Water operatives have isolated the burst and are working to repair it, with water being both backfed from a neighbouring supply zone and tankered into the local network to enable the restoration of normal water supplies to properties as quickly as possible.

When individual properties have their normal water supply restored will depend on their location on the water network.

There has been localised flooding in the immediate vicinity of the burst, with the A726 currently closed between the Barrholm roundabout and the roundabout on the approach to the A898.

Diversions are being put in place and drivers are advised to leave some extra time for their journeys.

If any affected customers experience discoloured water when supplies are restored, they should run the cold water tap in their kitchen until the water runs clear.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this burst and thank affected customers for their patience and understanding while these emergency repairs are under way.

Updates to follow.
