Increased stop-and-search powers for police in Bolton will be extended over the weekend.
Senior officers authorised for powers to be stepped up yesterday (Friday) after they 'received intelligence' from communities and social media'. Since then, 18 people have been stopped and searched in the town centre.
Police said no weapons were found and no arrests were necessary. Patrols have also been stepped up in the area.

In an update issued today, Greater Manchester Police said an extension to the increased stop-and-search powers - under section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 - has been granted. It will now last until 3pm tomorrow (Sunday).
Officers can stop-search anyone in the area during that time period. It will remain under review and could be extended, police said.
The GMP update added: "Anyone found carrying dangerous instruments or offensive weapons will be prosecuted.
"Extra uniformed and covert officers have been deployed in the borough over the weekend and we want to assure the public that the increase in these measures is to keep people safe.
"We appeal to parents, carers, and other responsible adults to talk to young people about their plans for the weekend to ensure they are safe and they are legal.
