More people in hospital in WA with COVID

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 in Western Australia continues to climb as the state records another 2847 infections.

Forty eight cases are now in hospital, although none are in intensive care.

The state has 14,458 active infections with almost 13,200 in the metropolitan area, 264 in the South West and 135 in the Pilbara.

WA's strict level two public health restrictions are expected to remain in place for the rest of the month ahead of an expected peak in Omicron cases.

The McGowan government has not imposed any work from home edicts and has urged people to continue working in offices if they can.

Many businesses have made their own decision to send workers home to reduce the risk of outbreaks sweeping through offices.

The latest data from the Property Council of Australia shows Perth's office occupancy fell in February to 55 per cent of pre-COVID levels.

It is the lowest rate the city has recorded since July 2020.

Sydney and Melbourne's occupancies remained below 20 per cent but had climbed to their highest point since June last year and were expected to accelerate further.

Adelaide and Brisbane have bounced back to 47 per cent and 41 per cent of pre-COVID levels respectively.

Property Council executive director Sandra Brewer on Tuesday said West Australians were electing to work from home because of mask mandates rather than fear of COVID-19 transmission.

She said the state had failed to learn from the experiences of other states and were now experiencing similar economic damage.

"We have, in all but name, lockdowns in our CBD... it's essentially lockdown by policy," she said.

WA's Omicron outbreak is expected to peak at about 10,000 daily cases in coming weeks.

Health department modelling also forecasts a peak of 430 hospital ward admissions and 53 ICU admissions.
