KANCHANABURI: A total of 40 Myanmar nationals were arrested on Sunday and Monday after illegally crossing the border into Thailand in Muang, Sangkhla Buri and Thong Pha Phum districts of this western province.
The 24 men and 16 women were caught in six groups at Moo 2 and Moo 12 villages in tambon Ban Kao, Muang district; Moo 2 village in tambon Laiwo, Sangkhla Buri district; and Moo 1 village in tambon Tha Khanun, Thong Phaphum district.
Police said six Thai nationals, three men and three women, were also arrested on charges of giving them help and shelter.
Most of the border crossers were from Mawlamyine, Yangon, Bago and Rakhine townships. They said they had paid 15,000-20,000 baht each to brokers who promised the jobs in Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Kanchanaburi and Bangkok.
After legal processing they were to be sent back to Myanmar.
