More Belfast Bikes due to come to east of the city

Another new Belfast Bikes station is due to come to East Belfast after being approved by a council working group.

UUP Councillor John Kyle and Green Party councillor Anthony Flynn put forward a proposal at the Belfast City Council's East Area Working Group on Tuesday, January 31, for a new Belfast Bikes station in the Ballyhackamore area.

It comes a few weeks after councillors approved a new Belfast Bikes Station on the Castlereagh Road, close to the Connswater Community Greenway.

It is understood that the location for the new Ballyhackamore station will be close to Caper's Pizza and Nature's Way on the Newtownards Road.

Speaking to Belfast Live, councillor Flynn said that he was delighted that the proposal had been approved for the area, which will be the first in the Ormiston DEA.

He also said he hopes that further stations can be installed in the Belmont Road/Holywood Road area along with Victoria Park in order to further increase connectivity around East Belfast.

Councillor Anthony Flynn said: "I am delighted that Belfast City Council's East Area Working Group has agreed to Cllr Kyle & I's proposal for a new Belfast Bike station in Ballyhackamore and the first for the Ormiston DEA that I represent.

"The promotion of cycling infrastructure is an important part of building connected communities, leading to happier and healthier communities.

"This new station will connect outer East Belfast to the rest of the Belfast bikes network, helping drive footfall for local businesses in Ballyhackamore and further East."
