A new open-air terrace is opening in Greenwich next month, just in time for the summer.
The weekend-only Morden Wharf Terrace will launch on April 29 and is promising street food, live DJs and a wide range of beers on tap, at a site that leads right down to the waterfront. The terrace, which has capacity for 500, forms part of the Brew By Numbers craft brewery, who unsurprisingly will supply the booze.
Besides the beer, music will be a focus of the opening. A Funktion One sound system — the kind more usually found in London’s top clubs — has been installed alongside a DJ booth built into a shipping container. DJs have been booked from launch, with those set to play including Marcel Vogel, Terry Farley, Kevin McKay, Spencer Brown, and Lulah Francs, among others. On the days no music is scheduled, the Brew By Numbers tap room area will spill out onto the terrace.
Street food will also be on offer, with dishes from chicken specialist It’s A London Wing and pizza from Freewheelin’ Pizza. Black Eats LDN, who run a directory of Black-owned restaurants and food businesses, have also been booked to cater occasionally. Cocktails are likewise promised.
Modern Wharf Terrace’s Alex Donald said of the opening: “We’re really excited to be bringing some of the best names in electronic music to this stunning location on the Thames.
“The terrace is part of Brew By Numbers Brewery and I knew it had huge potential to be transformed into a music venue. Open-air dancing in London is still a rarity and we’re making the most of this with uninterrupted panoramic views, Funktion One sound and the best street food. We have a brewery next door so that means amazing craft beer on tap too!”
The terrace will initially open on Fridays from 5—10pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon till 10pm. Regular brunches will be held throughout the summer on Saturdays, and special events planned include Glastonbury screenings in June.
