Josh Owens of the TV show Moonshiners has been injured in a motorcycle accident at the Daytona International Speedway.
The accident took place over the weekend on Saturday (4 March) in Daytona Beach, Florida.
While there’s little information available about the accident, it’s been reported that it occurred during a bike race.
The extent of Mr Owens’ injuries has not been confirmed.
Support has poured out for Mr Owens, who has appeared on the Discovery programme Moonshiners since 2012, on social media as news of the accident spread.
Jessica Read wrote on Facebook on Sunday night, “please keep our brother Josh Owens in prayer. I’ve gotten so many calls & messages that I haven’t answered & I’m sorry. Josh is stable right now from the accident thank God. I can’t sleep & I’m praying & I’m thinking about all the good times. We love you so much brother”.
Fellow moonshiner Tim Smith tweeted: “Grateful for all the love, prayers and support for Moonshiner Josh Owens - all I could say right now is that both of his arms are working fine, so he’ll still be able to make some shine but keep praying please, we are a ways out.”
Rich Landry, also a moonshiner, said in a video that Mr Owens was okay, but that he had broken his leg.
“We know that’s like a hangnail for Josh,” he said, according to Distractify.
Mr Landry added in the Facebook video on Sunday that Mr Owens isn’t “out of the woods yet”.
The programme description for Moonshiners on Discovery’s website states: “As they bury one of their last old-time legends, a dozen surviving moonshiners must join forces to fight for their way of life, before it’s gone forever.”
Distractify noted that Mr Owens set his house on fire during season 11 of the show while trying to make moonshine out of maple sap and that he once ended up in trouble after choosing a less-than-ideal location for his distilling work.
