Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner review

Image of Moolan S1 pool vacuum cleaner

The Moolan S1 cordless pool vacuum cleaner is nicely designed and has some useful features like self parking and fast charge.

Key specs

Clean time: 140 minutes
Cable length: Cordless
Suction rate: 60 liters per minute suction power
Weight: 9.9lbs
Pool size: Above or in-ground shallow 1200 ft² pool
Brushes: No
Smart features: No

Plus it’s cordless so there are no messy wires to get tangled or trip you up.

I liked how powerful it was at sucking up dirt and debris (60 liters a minute suction rate), and the dual motors helped it smoothly work its way around my pool. It has a nice circular design and is very easy to use and clean. I like that you don’t have to hook it up to the skimmer or filtration system and that it operates independently - you just throw it in the pool and off it goes.

But for the price I would expect to see a few more features - it can’t climb walls or stairs, and will only accommodate pools with a slope up to 15 degrees. It also doesn’t have any timer or scheduling options, and struggles to pick up larger debris or leaves, especially those floating on the surface. The battery might not be enough to last for larger pools, so this product is better suited for small to medium sized ones.

The Moolan S1 certainly won’t top any lists for the best pool vacuums or the best pool cleaners, but it does a decent job of pool cleaning without any bells or whistles.

Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner: Design

The Moolan S1 has a nice circular design, and looks a bit like a spaceship or submarine floating under the water. It is a cordless robotic pool cleaner that works without connecting to your pool’s filtration system. Designed for both above and in-ground pools, the white unit has a dual drive motor, two large water inlets and scrapers to clean debris and dirt.

Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner: Features

The Moolan S1 robotic pool vacuum cleaner is cordless, so that means no cables to trip over and also nothing to untangle. It has a powerful dual drive motor as well as two water inlets, and two scrapers to get to work on dirt and debris.

The large capacity rechargeable battery has an impressive 140 minutes on a single charge, and I found it was fully charged in under 3 hours. Just click the button underneath and put it in the water to start cleaning.

I liked how the cleaner parks itself by a pool wall when it’s running out of battery so it’s easier to retrieve. It can accommodate pools with a slope below 15 degrees. It can’t climb walls or clean the waterline, unlike the Zodiac G3, which is a similar price.

Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner: Price and availability

The Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner retails at $319.99 and is available to buy from Amazon. It’s a mid range machine that has a long running time on a single charge (140 minutes) as well as other handy features like fast charge and self parking.

Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner: User reviews

The Moolan pool cleaner scores 4.9 out of 5 with 94% of users rating it 5/5. Fans of the unit say it has a strong suction rate, with one saying: “the suction power is good enough to pick up the sand, small rocks and small leaves. I was very satisfied with its performance. if you want a flawless job then you might wanna go with a second round.” There were very few negative reviews, however one person suggested it would be useful to have a timer on the unit.

Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner: What the experts say

Hugo Guerrero, a certified House Cleaning Technician (HCT) from New York, said this pool cleaner is ideal for an above or in-ground shallow pool. “It’s very lightweight and easy to use and can run up to 140 minutes on a single charge. The filter is also easy to clean and it uses an advanced filtration system, which makes it very efficient. However the design is not very sturdy.”

Should you buy the Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner?

The Moolan S1 does a decent job of cleaning small to medium sized pools, but it’s lacking some of the features you’d expect for a machine this price. It can’t climb stairs or walls, and the battery might not be enough for larger pools without a second charge. It’s also lacking any scheduling or timer options. For the same price you can get the Zodiac G3, which does have wall and step climbing capabilities.

How does the Moolan cordless pool vacuum cleaner compare to its competitors?

A slightly cheaper option is the Hydrus Roker Plus ($274), which is super easy to use and has a powerful suction rate for small pool cleaning.

For a similar price then the Zodiac G3 ($324) is a high performing pool vacuum cleaner that uses a diaphragm system and large fin disc to tackle dirt and debris. Plus it climbs walls unlike the Moolan.

If budget is no limit, the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus ($999) tops the best pool vacuums and deservedly so. It has wall climbing capability,  and some serious scrubbing power that takes the hard work out of pool maintenance.
