A Montana vacation lodge is currently embroiled in a legal battle after a tragic incident involving the death of a newlywed due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The lawsuit, filed by an Alabama woman, alleges negligence on the part of Rainbow Ranch and its staff, leading to the untimely demise of her husband during their honeymoon stay in January 2021.
The complaint details that the defendants failed to inspect a boiler in an adjacent room to where the couple was staying, following routine maintenance conducted prior to their arrival. The newlyweds, who had just celebrated their marriage, were found in their room with the husband deceased and the wife severely disoriented.
According to the lawsuit, the hotel staff neglected to check on the couple despite a request from the wife's sister during their stay. It was only after several days that the general manager attempted to contact the guests, discovering the tragic outcome.
The lawsuit further reveals that lethal levels of carbon monoxide had seeped into the couple's room through holes drilled in the wall, originating from the boiler room. The plaintiff argues that had the lodge staff followed up on the welfare check request, the husband might have survived, and the wife would not have suffered injuries.
The complaint seeks damages for emotional distress, physical and mental suffering, loss of quality of life, and loss of earning capacity. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper maintenance and safety protocols in hospitality establishments to prevent such devastating outcomes.
