Capcom's Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin adds to the popular franchise's spin-off. This is with a variety of features and content.

The game features a unique battle system where you and your foes will face off in head-to-head battles with a. These will be done with a rock, paper, scissors format. Fans of the franchise might get confused with this system.

This guide is a combat guide that will help players understand the battle system. There will also be some tips and tricks that will help you win more battles throughout the game.

Basics of Combat

The first thing to know is the basics of combat in the game. Battles take place in a turn-based format where players have more time to strategize and consider various possibilities, according to Polygon.

Every round, you and your opponent will trade blows and you are given the chance to select from different types of attacks. The three types of attacks you can choose from are Power, Speed, and Technical.

Normally, the type of attack you use does not change anything about what your character does. They only actually matter when you initiate a head-to-head attack against an enemy.

Unique Combat Mechanic

These head-to-head attacks will occur when a party member and a monster attack each other. You will know this because a special animation will play out and you will see either a success or fail prompt depending on your choice and the enemy's attributes.

Basically, Power is strong against Technical, Technical is strong against Speed, and Speed is strong against Power. Monsters are generally able to use only one type of attack so you can choose which one to use against different enemies, The Gamer said.

Your own monsters also have their own attack type which is depicted by the icon next to their current level. It is highly recommended to have at least one monster of each type to double down on your enemies' weaknesses.

The primary benefit of winning a head-to-head clash is that you will receive reduced damage from the enemy's attack. You will also be able to fill up your Kinship Gauge by a lot.

Another feature in the game is Double Attacks where you and your monster will both attack at the same time. This can only happen if you both use the same winning attack type against a particular enemy.

Other Tips

Monsters usually have a primary attack type and a secondary type that they will use when they are enraged. Some of the monsters in the game can also use all three attack types depending on the situation.

For example, the Elder Dragon Kushala Daora primarily uses Technical but will also use Power when it is enraged.

On the other hand, Rajan starts out using Power but will then be able to use all three types when enraged depending on the aura, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.
