Monopoly celebrates 90s nostalgia by bringing back 'iconic' retro token for players

In good stead for the 2023 revamp of the classic Monopoly board game, Hasbro has launched a campaign to let people have their say on which retired childhood token will make a grand return.

The global play and entertainment leaders have opened up the Monopoly Throwback Token Vote on their official website, which will give fans across the world to choose which old-school player token will make a comeback early next year.

Voters will be able to choose from the Thimble, Wheelbarrow, Iron, Boot, Horse & Rider of Money Bag emblem, in turn voting one of the more recent symbols out and up for replacement.

Voting will last for three weeks and conclude with Hasbro revealing the results of the vote to determine which Throwback Token will make the cut.

The fan-picked winner will be updated in a refreshed version of the classic Monopoly board game hitting shelves early 2023. The current classic board game including the Scottie, Battleship, Racecar, Top Hat, Penguin, T-Rex, Hazel, and Rubber Ducky will see one of the aforementioned tokens replaced in the refreshed version.

SVP & General Manager of Hasbro Gaming, Adam Biehl, said: “We know that fans across the globe have been missing the tokens of their childhood, and now is the chance to take a trip down memory lane and bring one back!

“We’re so thrilled to give fans the opportunity once again to change the global best-selling board game through the Monopoly Throwback Token vote...but which iconic token will emerge victorious, and which current token will go into retirement?”
