Photos have shown the aftermath of a fire that tore through a branch of Peacocks in the centre of Monmouth. A huge fire broke out in Monmouth on Monday with multiple fire engines in attendance. A section of Monnow Street in the centre of the town was closed.
A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on Tuesday that more than 40 crews from fire stations across south Wales attended the scene. Emergency services arrived at the scene at approximately 9.20am on Monday, May 23, after they had received reports of a fire.
Upon arrival crews were faced with a "large, well-developed fire" in the Peacocks building. Firefighters extinguished the fire and a stop message was received at approximately 5.09pm. Fire services from Hereford and Worcester, and Gloucestershire, assisted during the incident. The suspected cause of the fire was determined to be an accidental ignition.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Services said: "We would also like to thank a number of the surrounding businesses who kindly provided our crews with food and drink and to the community for their ongoing support and cooperation during this incident." The property has now been boarded up and secured as a safety precaution.
