Monitoring system to be strengthened to control price rise

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil has directed District Collectors to strengthen the monitoring system and keep a close tab on prices of essential commodities to prevent traders from fleecing consumers.

Addressing a meeting convened to discuss the price rise here on Monday, the Minister said special squads headed by Collectors and comprising officials from the Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology departments would carry out inspections on retail outlets to keep prices in check. District-level meetings of traders’ associations would also be convened.

Mr. Anil said stern action would be taken against traders who did not display prices in shops. He said cinema halls and hotels found to be overpricing bottled water and food items would also face action.

Land Revenue Commissioner K. Biju, Civil Supplies Commissioner D. Sajit Babu, and District Collectors participated in the meeting.
