Far-right hate group Patriotic Alternative host event at Scots hotel leaving guests disgusted
A new far-right political party staged its first annual conference at a Scottish family hotel as bemused holiday-makers looked on in disgust. Patriotic Alternative Scotland held the event at the Stirling Highland Hotel after booking the venue without revealing their true identity.
The racist group also held a demonstration at Stirling Castle, with a banner stating: “White lives built Britain.” The presence of the fascist group in Scotland has been condemned for stirring hate.
Stirling MP Alyn Smith said the appearance of the far-right group in Stirling was an abuse of the city’s spirit of welcoming outsiders. He said: “These bams abused our hospitality with their ultra hate-fest and their daft wee stunt.”
Toddler ate rat poisoning at Scots nursery as terrified mum feared for his life
A toddler ate rat poisoning after gaining access to a closed nursery play area, a report has found.
Katrina Williamson and David Adams' were left terrified after three-year-old son Aaron was rushed to hospital after coming into contact with the hazardous substance.
The incident happened at the Firtrees Nursery in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.
Scots Celtic fan among 10 people killed in Irish petrol station explosion
A Scots Celtic fan is among the 10 people killed in a horrific petrol station explosion in Ireland.
Martin McGill, 49, originally from Glasgow, died following the blast in Creeslough, a village in County Donegal, on Friday afternoon. The Hoops fan had moved to the area many years ago and was known locally as 'Scotch Martin', Buzz.ie reports, and was among the victims whose names were released by Irish police at the weekend.
An image of Martin released through police by his family showed him smiling in a Celtic shirt. Local media reports that Martin had moved to the village to care for his parents, Joseph and Mary, and that his funeral is due to be held on Tuesday October 11.
Police lock down Edinburgh street after 'armed men' launch attack
Police in Edinburgh have locked down a residential street following a violent disturbance on Monday afternoon.
Officers were called to Ardshiel Avenue in the western area of Clermiston shortly after 12pm on October 10 after horrified residents saw a car crash to a halt outside a property and the driver get into a fight with a man armed with a pair of wooden planks. A hammer and a knife are also reportedly to have been wielded during the confrontation.
Edinburgh Live reports eyewitnesses claiming to have seen three men arguing with an older male in the street. Locals say scuffle broke out and they heard "screaming" prior to the emergency services arriving on the scene.
Nicola Sturgeon announces poorest Scots families will have key benefit doubled in time for Christmas
Nicola Sturgeon has announced that some of the poorest families in Scotland will receive a cash boost of £260 in time for Christmas.
Addressing the SNP conference in Aberdeen, the First Minister said her government would double the final instalment of bridging payments.
The payments are made to children who are in receipt of free school meals due to low income.
