Monaco release 'very aggressive' Aurelien Tchouameni transfer statement amid Liverpool rumours

Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell has issued an update regarding the future of Aurelien Tchouameni as the French midfielder continues to be linked with a summer transfer.

Tchouameni has emerged as target for both Liverpool and Real Madrid ahead of a potential move, with reports from France suggesting on Sunday the 22-year-old had agreed personal terms with both clubs. The ECHO understands the Reds still expect their fellow Champions League finalists to win the race for the Monaco man, with club sources insisting Liverpool have been informed by the player's representatives that he is joining the La Liga champions later this summer.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not this turns out to be the case, with Madrid also missing out on their number one target for the summer in Kylian Mbappe. The French forward recently agreed a new, lucrative three-year deal with PSG to end speculation over his future at the club.

Monaco's transfer chief, Mitchell, has now addressed the future of the sought-after midfielder by telling RMC: “I don't have a preference to be honest [over who he joins]. Of course, an important fee is needed. Offers have to be very aggressive if they want us to sell a top player like Tchouameni."

Tchouameni made 35 appearances for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season and has established a reputation as one of the emerging midfielders in Europe having been capped by world champions France eight times since making his debut in 2021. Under contract until 2024, his current employers are likely to generate a sizeable fee for his services should a deal be completed in the weeks ahead.
