Monaco drop major Benoit Badiashile transfer hint as Chelsea edge closer to £33m deal

Monaco have dropped a huge hint over Benoit Badiashile's future as Chelsea continue to negotiate a transfer for the French defender. The Blues have already completed one signing as the January transfer window officially opens with David Datro Fofana set to complete a move to Stamford Bridge from Molde.

Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella were all signed for more than £100million combined in the summer. Todd Boehly spent close to £300million in his first transfer window after completing a £4.25billion takeover at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues signing eight new players in total.

Graham Potter has since inherited Thomas Tuchel's squad after replacing the German as Chelsea boss in September. Potter will be hoping to add players that fit his style of play and ideas at Chelsea, and Badiashile could be the first senior player to be a part of that.

Benoit Badiashile has been left out of Monaco's squad to face Stade Brestois this afternoon as negotiations continue over a move to the Blues. The French defender is close to sealing a transfer to Chelsea after a £33million fee had been agreed, according to The Athletic.

The 21-year-old was left on the bench for Monaco's 3-2 win over AJ Auxerre earlier this week and has now been omitted from the squad entirely by Phillepe Clement.

Clement hinted that the Blues were not the only club interested in his star defender heading into the January transfer window. The Monaco boss said: "I don't think there is only one club that has approached Benoit Badiashile.

"It's not just Chelsea. There has been a lot of interest in several of our players over the past six months. This is also the case with Benoit."

It seems though that the Blues are progressing well in their pursuit of Badiashile as they aim to complete their transfer business swiftly and with few problems to ensure Potter has all the tools and players available to him to achieve a top four finish.
