In a sensational turn of events, the co-founder of the conservative group Moms for Liberty, who has advocated for book bans and against discussions of gender or sexuality in classrooms, has found herself embroiled in a sex scandal.
Bridget Ziegler, a well-known figure in conservative circles and an ally of Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis, is facing intense criticism due to a scandal involving her husband and another woman. The issue has triggered calls for Ziegler's resignation from the Sarasota County School Board and caused a stir within the community for her apparent hypocrisy.
Ziegler, who was pivotal in pushing Florida's Parental Rights in Education Law, known as the 'Don't Say Gay' Bill, has been reportedly involved in a planned sexual encounter with her husband, the chair of the Florida Republican Party, and another woman. The alleged scandal came to light after the woman accused Ziegler's husband of rape, citing that the encounter had been planned for all three of them, but was called off. However, her husband supposedly still arrived at the woman's house, fueling the controversy.
Despite the damning accusations, Ziegler has kept a resolute stance, stating no intentions to resign from the school board as her husband remains under investigation. Yet the public sentiment appears to be against her. During a three-hour public comment session at a school board meeting, calls for her resignation echoed throughout the room. Detractors pointed to Ziegler's apparent hypocrisy, passing judgments on others while allegedly engaging in questionable activities herself.
However, there was a small show of solidarity from some attendees who defended Ziegler's right to privacy. These supporters argued that what an adult does in their private life should be their business and is not open to public judgment.
Regardless, the repercussions from the sex scandal is already being felt. A Moms for Liberty chapter in Pennsylvania has split from the national group and the Florida Governor has made calls for Christian Ziegler to step down. As it stands, the final decision on Bridget Ziegler's position lies with Governor DeSantis. Meanwhile, the Florida Republican Party's executive committee will soon decide on the suspension and vote of no confidence for Christian Ziegler. Both Zieglers retain their leadership positions as of now.
