An astonishing video captured the heart-stopping moment a driver collided with a tow truck's flatbed, propelling the vehicle high into the sky.
Body camera footage reveals the shocking events that unfolded during the crash in South Georgia on May 24.
Deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office were responding to a traffic incident when, as they stood on the side of the road, a speeding car hurtled down a left lane.
The car can be seen ascending the back of the unsuspecting tow truck, launching into the air and crashing hard on the asphalt several feet away.
The police officer wearing the body camera then raced towards the disarrayed wreckage to offer assistance.
The Georgia State Patrol told WSB-TV that the driver, a 21-year-old woman from Tallahassee, survived the harrowing crash but was hospitalised with serious injuries.
According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, the car was launched 120 feet through the air, soaring over the tow truck.
At its descent, it also collided with another vehicle from behind and then pushed an additional 23 feet.
A Lowndes County deputy suffered injuries from the flying debris and required hospitalization. No other casualties were reported.
Georgia State Patrol Lt. Crystal Zion said that the crash stresses the importance of Georgia’s Move Over Law.
“It takes out the distractions of driving fast or phones or other people in the car. Basically, you know, when you see those lights to slow down, move over,” Zion said.
