Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch reportedly changed his stance on the future of Mateusz Klich after the 2-1 opening day win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Klich came off the bench as the Whites came from a goal behind to take all three points at Elland Road.
According to Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy, Klich was keen to go out on loan in the summer in order to secure regular game time ahead of the World Cup. Leeds brought in Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Brenden Aaronson during the window, which meant minutes were set to arrive far more infrequently for Klich this season.
The report claims that Marsch had approved Klich’s wish to leave temporarily, but after his impact as a substitute against Wolves, the Leeds boss changed his mind. Speaking during the summer, Marsch seemingly publicly left the door open for Klich to leave, should he wish.

He said: “I don’t know yet,” he said. “Listen, I really like Mateusz and his mentality has been great. He, understandably, really wants to go to the World Cup.
“All of our guys are trying to figure out how it all fits and it’s an important four or five months for a lot of players. I like having Mateusz here, he’s a great guy and he’s put a lot into this, so we’ll see what happens.”
Klich has featured in all six of Leeds’ Premier League matches this season, though none of those have come from the start. He is one of a number of Poland internationals in the Premier League not currently playing regularly, including Aston Villa duo Jan Bednarek and Matty Cash, though the latter is down to injury.
Przeglad Sportowy now claim that Poland will now ‘will see how the current situation of the midfielder will affect his importance at the national team,’ ahead of the World Cup later this year.
